Billboard Selects BTS’ Album and Song as the Best of 2015

[by Kim Young Shin] Korean boy group BTS’ album ‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.2’ and its title song ‘Run’ were selected as one of the best K-pop albums and songs by Billboard.

The American chart chose the album as the fourth on ‘The 10 Best K-pop Albums of 2015’ and the song the third on ‘The 20 Best K-pop Songs of 2015’ as the third on December 30.

BTS is the only candidate who got its name on both the best K-pop albums and songs list.

Billboard nominated ‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.2’ because it “solidifies BTS’ place in the K-pop scene as the band not only showcased their emotional take on hip-hop with the single “Run,” but proved they aren’t afraid to tackle topics typically avoided by most K-pop acts.” It also wrote favorable comments on other songs in the album such as ‘Whailen 52’ and ‘Autumn Leaves’.

For its title song, Billboard said, “BTS caught mainstream attention with “I Need U,” released in spring, that found the perfect balance of their hardcore hip-hop style with sentimental leanings. Seven months later, “Run” further perfected the formula for a chill-inducing take on those same feelings. It’s a song like this solidifies a group’s place in K-pop.”

Meanwhile, BTS’ ‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.2’ was placed on the 171th rank on Billboard200, the main album chart of the website. The album has sold 270,000 so far, showing off the group’s global popularity and influence. (photo by Big Hit Entertainment)
