Super Junior‘s fans E.L.F became the winner of Billboard’s annual battle of global fandoms.
From July 18 to August 29, Billboard ran the ‘FAN ARMY FACE-OFF 2018’ to decide which fandom is the “strongest fan army” in the world. Popular artists from around the globe regardless of nationality and genre were nominated. The battle was set up in a tournament format, where among a total of 64 contestants, the winners from each round advanced to the next round.
There were only 12 K-POP groups among the 64 teams, including Red Velvet, Girls’ Generation, GFRIEND, NCT, BTS, EXO, TWICE, BIGBANG, GOT7, SHINee and Seventeen. They competed against pop stars such as Adele, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift.
In the final round, the E.L.Fs took the win with 2,239,554 votes over 1,1818,417 votes by the Stylers, Harry Styles‘ fans.
BTS was the only other K-POP group to make it on the top 10 list by ranking no.3.
Meanwhile, Super Junior will perform at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang, Jakarta, Indonesia on September 2.
In addition, Super Junior’s Lee Teuk will be the MC of KBS’ ‘2018 Quiz On Korea‘ along with Sam Okyere from Ghana. Every year, ‘Quiz On Korea’ invites foreigners to Korea to compete on a survival quiz show.
The final round of ‘Quiz On Korea’ will be held on September 8 at 5 p.m. (KST) at KBS Hall in Yeouido. If you’d like to watch ‘2018 Quiz On Korea’ in person, you can apply through https://goo.gl/forms/MOdvqIfwVapeq4nq1, and tickets will be given out in the order of application.
