MONSTA X to Appear in a Chinese Web Drama


[by Kim Young Shin] Hip hop boy group MONSTA X in Chinese web drama ‘Good Evening, Teacher’ (working title) is getting enthusiastic responses from local viewers.

The drama premiered on January 25 through Chinese video provider iQIYI and recorded 8,369 views on January 29, which is remarkable number to be made in four days. Chinese fans were looking forward to MONSTA X’ appearance as the group announced that it will take a part in the program. Over 1,500 people watched the video when it was just past 16 hours after its release.

On January 29, the drama topped the ranks for accumulated views among web dramas in Chinese websites. Moreover, it was the second biggest hot topic in Weibo. More than 11,000 people followed the drama’s Weibo account.

‘Good Evening, Teacher’ is a classroom comedy happening around a high school teacher and a school girl who often get engaged in an argument. Hallyu actor Lee Dong Gun plays a math teacher who has a sharp tongue and cold-hearted looks. Famous Chinese actress Guan Xiao Tong plays the student. MONSTA X appears as MONSTA X, the top idol admired by the students. The members perform dance moves in the drama and show off their charms individually. On the first episode, the hero and the heroine of the drama is to meet at the group’s concert. The group’s song ‘Trespass’ and its powerful choreography is to be played during the important scene and captivate the local fans.

Its agency Starship Entertainment said “It is an honor for MONSTA X to take parts in a web drama by iQIYI, a powerful player in the Chinese contents industry. Moreover, it plays a role where it can show off its own songs and dances. We are thankful for the heated responses from the viewers, which is much more than we expected.
