[by Woorim Ahn, photo by Kim Chi Yoon] ‘Yoon, Yong, Yang, Lee, Son’ are finally back.
Group Highlight’s first mini album ‘Can You Feel It?’ showcase and press conference was held at Yes24 Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on March 20 at 5pm KST.
Yoon Doo Joon, Yong Jun Hyung, Yang Yo Sub, Lee Gi Kwang and Son Dong Woon announced to be independent after leaving its old agency CUBE Entertainment and BEAST that they grew up for last 7 years. After a long waiting of fans, they established Around US Entertainment and came back as Highlight.
There were lots of struggles, but they didn’t know how to give up and that became a driving force for them. As much as that, Highlight’s debut (comeback) was more than welcomed. Yoon Doo Joon said, “Once again, thank you a lot for coming and now I feel like it’s real. We will try our best” and showed his confidence.
Son Dong Woon said, “Our last album title as BEAST was ‘Highlight’. It means to be the highlight of K-pop scene as our second chapter begins” and explained about the behind story of its group name.
First mini album ‘Can You Feel It?’ that the members prepared for a long time was produced by Yong Jun Hyung and his producing team Good Life, and members Yang Yo Sub and Lee Gi Kwang participated in writing lyrics.
Yong Jun Hyung said, “It is Highlight’s first mini album consisting of five songs and one instrumental. As always, we all have talked about it. Since it is our first album, we set a title song as bright one. Many members joined it, so please give us much love and interests.”
Many people might be curious about the group’s debut process. Medias were careful to ask the behind stories, but they brightened up the dark days with their own positive energies and volubility like ‘highlight’.
“One thing is we never thought this would come. We wanted to keep the name we’ve been together, but negotiation with former agency didn’t go well. We thought we did our best and if it went further, it might took longer to see our fans, so we came back with a new name.” (Yoon Doo Joon)
Yong Jun Hyung continued, “The one thing we wanted to clarify is we don’t blame anybody. We just want peace since today is world’s happiness day” and made everyone laugh. Since they didn’t leave any emotions for their previous agency, they continued to talk to clarify everything.
When Highlight announced independence, many people worried a lot as much as giving blessings. Yang Yo Sub said, “A single thing wasn’t easy and I think lots of things will be hard as well from now on. I think we did a successful independence as we can work happily with our staffs” and revealed his satisfaction.
It might not be easy to say goodbye to BEAST that has everyone’s love for 7 years. However, they continued with a smile. “We want to keep a lot more memories than when we were BEAST.” It is a beautiful debut goal and determination of a boy band that is at its 9th year career.
